On the way I encounter this little history lesson. Sorry, the sign is pretty weathered and looks a bit blurry.

A little further down the road I see this sign for the Hungry Horse Dam. It sounds "damn" interesting to me so I take a little sidetrack to check it out.

The drive up to the dam is really scenic, a quick 4 miles from the main drag.

The dam is pretty damn big! Built in 1953 to generate electricity for the masses, the top is open to drive across so I jump in the van and head on over. Looking down over the side of the dam at its midpoint doesn't seem very scary to me. There is a lot of height but the dam's curved face gives me the crazy impression a person could actually survive a fall. I'm probably wrong.

On the far side I see this gigantic 125-ton crane designed to moved atop the dam on two steel rails. There seems to be a bunch of junk leaning up against it, preventing it from moving down the rails. That seems a little odd to me.
