Hike: #1

Location: In Yellowstone National Park near Mammoth Hot Springs, Wyoming

Distance: 11.4 mile loop

Elevation Change: 3,400 feet

Tread: Dirt trails, open meadows, mountaintop

Miles/Time/Avg: 11.4/3:23:05/3.4

Rating:   (5 max)

The Sepulcher Mountain Trailhead is located alongside Mammoth Hot Springs.

After passing Liberty Cap on a short boardwalk traverse, I arrive at Beaver Ponds Trail which overlays the Sepulcher Mountain Trail for a little ways before branching off to go its own way. I turn left and head up the trail.

Immediately to my left I see the edge of a spring terrace, one of many at Mammoth Hot Springs. This particular formation is very close to the trail, I'm a bit surprised it's not fenced off from the public. I can see little Junior stomping around on it if left unsupervised.
