Located in southeastern Louisiana along the Mississippi River, New Orleans is the largest city in the State. New Orleans is best known for its multi-cultural influences and heritage (French, Spanish, and African-American), its Cajon cuisine, and its great music. Well attended events such as Mardi Gras, Southern Decadence, Jazz Fest, as well as college football's Sugar Bowl have earned New Orleans the reputation as one of America's premiere entertainment hotspots.

Founded long ago in 1718, the French colony was named in honor of Phillip II, the duke of Orleans, who was the ruler of France at the time. New Orleans is referred to by other names such as Cresent City (its shape around the Mississippi), The Big Easy (describing the ease at which musicians can find work in the city), and The City that Care Forgot (a tribute to the many easy-going and carefree residents).

New Orleans is a major port city. Its proximity near the Gulf of Mexico and the Mississippi River position it as a major trade hub between the United States and Latin America. The petroleum industry has many interests here, including a multitude of oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico, oil refineries, and a huge conglomeration of piping to transport the area's oil riches into America's interior reaches.

My visit to New Orleans will concentrate on its French Quarter offering. The oldest and most famous part of the city, it is here you'll find old architecture (most of the buildings were constructed in the 1700s), great cuisine, wonderful jazz and blues music, a multitude of bars, and even sex shops/clubs for those who are so inclined to satisfy their naughty desires.

Rather than present my tour chronologically, I've decided to categorize the sights instead to make your taste of my experiences more palatable. Come with me now as I tour the French Quarter. This place has got something for everybody, and that includes you.
