A mecca for world class athletes who complete in bobsled, luge, skeleton, cross country skiing and biathlon, the Verizon Sports Complex also offers sporting opportunities to the general public. That's right! You too can experience many of these same sporting thrills in the summer months. Located near Lake Placid, NY at Mt. Van Hoevenberg, the complex also offers over 20 miles of challenging mountain bike trails, from moderate to intense.

After a short drive I arrived at the ticket office.

After I bought my general admission ticket I walked through the gate and into the combined track portion of the complex.

They offered a bus tour but I grew impatient waiting for the next bus to arrive so I just hiked up the mountain to see the facility close-up. I wasn't sure if self-tours were allowed but I went anyway. I figured they'd stop me if they had a problem with that. Plus, I didn't see any signs saying I couldn't. And even if I did, I probably would have gone anyway, just claiming ignorance if I got caught. Sometimes stretching the rules isn't always a bad thing, especially with something as tame as this.
