Adirondack State Park
Upstate New York

The trail passes by this watery disaster that's just waiting to spill over and flood the trail. Is this a beaver dam? I don't see any beavers. Must be they're on strike, probably demanding higher quality wood to chew on.

After a bit of hiking I spy a patch of berries on the side of the trail. I was once taught that berries colored blue are always safe to eat, those colored red may or may not be safe, and those colored white are always poisonous. I wonder if that is really true?

2.4 miles to Marcy Dam.

Along the trail I periodically see these crude power lines. Or at least that's what I think they are. The wire wrapped, pole mounted insulators lead me to believe power is or once was surging through the lines. Some of the wire spans are low enough to touch. Yikes!

The hike has been as flat as a pancake so far. I'm hoofing along at a good clip, racing against the clock and making good time.
